e-Learning: Will it be the next big thing?

Ever since the popularity of the www, anything related to internet has been catching headlines or has been a constant source of revenue. The 2000 bubble burst was an indicator that the www is a platform rather than end means. Thus many of the off-spring activities on the net, initially hyped very much and then later were subject to denial or rejection.

e-Learning is one such domain which recieved enormous amount of lime-light space at the peak of the first IT revolution. Though, today there exists in good number if not abundance many content management systems that can support endeavours like e-learning, still it is only a 3billion $ industry. Thats nearly equal to the annual revenue of Indian IT major Infosys.

I believe that one of the reason for the slow progress or the slower rate of adoption of e-learning is lack of a solid infrastructure. e-Learning will have to evolve beyond the boundaries of the www and evolve as an intelligent service based on an advanced platform.

But the real question is can e-learning evolve in such a manner, which can place itself as a real substitute for conventional learning?

Finally, I have one...

I also wanted it, from long time...but was either too busy or lazy sometimes to go for it. Hey, I am speaking of a personal website. So, it was only last week that I resolved that I am going for it. I already had a webpage on the SEBE website..but yeah dil maange more! So the hunt began, googling for free content space on the net. I came across many "free" content space with hidden costs involved. Found many such "Register Domain for free!!", and then shell 20 $ per month for maintainence :D

So, I finally found one web space provider, along with array of services including free CSS for subscribers. I was sort of impressed because everything actually was for free of cost!! So I told myself...here I have it! And when I uploaded my custom contents and went to my URL. Lo! I suddenly discovered why such good services were offered for free. I found a big ad eclipsing my site from the top! Yuk...all the customizations done by me was totally a waste of time, coz that ad completely prevailed over my site. And inorder to remove the add I had to pay 20$!! So, I was back to square one..:(

I am a frequent orkuteer and I happened to browse through the profiles of some of my seniors and I found gautham's profile (buzypi). I found that he had a website on 50webs and was glad to see that there were no freak ads posted by 50webs on his site. Morever, I was impressed with way he has maintained his site. Especially, the RSS Feed support on his site. I thought let me go for 50webs. The registration process was simple and I quickly found myself into my "finally manager". I quickly got the feel of things. So, here I was...where I have around 60Mb of free content space.

The next target for me was to either write a CSS or borrow one. I thought its a waste of time to start fom the scratch and made head on with the OSWD site. After browsing the designs, I found a simple but decent design. so, I downloaded it and started the job of preparing the HTML files. And after around 2 hours I was ready with the site.

But somehow I felt something is missing, and found its the RSS stuff that needs to be added to the site. I had to activate the RSS Feed for my blog and and used feedburner to do the requisites. I found a cool headlines tool provided by feedburner and added that to the home page of the website. This actually shows all my blog titles with the date of publication. I am really impressed with the concept of RSS Feed and Atoms and wanna dig more into those. And yeah here's the link
